geography

Barésia-sur-l'Ain is located at 480  m , about 18 kilometers southeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The area of the municipality of 9.39 km² covers a section of the French Jura. Today it is a popular recreational area and is around 500 m wide in the area of Barésia-sur-l'Ain. On its east side, the lake is flanked by a 50 to 100 m high steep slope that leads to the adjacent plateau (on average at 500  m ). There is an extensive moorland to the east of the village. To the south, the municipal area extends to the plateau des Bois sous les Baumes ( 545  m ) and reaches the highest point of Barésia-sur-l'Ain at 567  m on the edge of the Thoiria plateau . The southern boundary is the Cluse de la Pile , a narrow branch of the Lac de Vouglans in the erosion valley of the Cimante .

Barésia-sur-l'Ain includes the village of Auge ( 520  m ) on the plateau east of Lac de Vouglans and some individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Barésia-sur-l'Ain are Pont-de-Poitte , Boissia and Clairvaux-les-Lacs in the north, Soucia and Thoiria in the east, Coyron in the south and La Tour-du-Meix and Largillay-Marsonnay in the west.

history

The municipality of Barésia-sur-l'Ain was populated very early. Witnesses from prehistoric times are the remains of a road and a tumulus from the Hallstatt period . At the height of Le Châtelet there is a rampart that probably dates from Roman times .

Barésia-sur-l'Ain is mentioned for the first time in 1184. The village has belonged to the barony of Clairvaux since the Middle Ages. Together with Franche-Comté , Barésia-sur-l'Ain came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. There was a change of area in 1821 when the previously independent Auge was incorporated into Barésia. In 1962, the municipality name was officially renamed from Barésia to Barésia-sur-l'Ain.
