La Latette is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Latette is at 871 m , about 14 kilometers east of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a hollow on the plateau south of the Val de Mièges near the Jura range of the Haute Joux.
The area of the 5.89 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by a plateau, which averages 880 m . It rises gradually towards the south, shows only very small differences in relief and is mainly covered by meadow and pasture land. On a hilltop near the Grange du Fresne farmstead, La Latette's highest point is reached at 971 m . The plateau has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
Neighboring municipalities of La Latette are Longcochon and Mignovillard in the north, Cerniébaud in the southeast, Fraroz in the south and Rix in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, La Latette belonged to the Nozeroy domain . The village was affected in 1639 by raids by Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar . Together with Franche-Comté , La Latette came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 73 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Latette is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had declined markedly in the first half of the 20th century (217 people were counted in 1886), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Latette was a village dominated by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Bief-des-Maisons to Mignovillard. Further road connections exist with Rix-Trébief, Longcochon and Cerniébaud.
