Charency is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Charency is located at 762 m , about seven kilometers east-northeast of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on a slope gently sloping to the east on the plateau north of the valley basin of the Val de Sirod, through which the upper Ain flows.
The area of the 2.73 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the Charency plateau, which is on average 760 m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. At 804 m , the highest point of Charency is reached at the height southwest of the village. The plateau is flanked on three sides by valleys, which also mark the municipal boundary. To the north and west is the valley of the Ruisseau de Peuly (tributary of the Loudaine), to the east the valley of the Ruisseau de Combe Sandon , which flows into the Ain below Charency.
Neighboring communities of Charency are Mournans-Charbonny in the west and north, Doye in the east and Conte , Sirod and Lent in the south.
history
Some finds indicate that the municipality of Charency was already populated in Gallo-Roman times. From the 13th century Charency formed its own small rule. The castle, mentioned in a document in 1294, was built in 1477 by the troops of King Louis XI. destroyed. Together with Franche-Comté , Charency came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Charency was a village dominated by agriculture, especially cattle breeding and dairy farming. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main D471 road from Champagnole to Pontarlier . Further road connections exist with Lent and Doye.
