Vers-en-Montagne is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vers-en-Montagne is located at 595 m , about eight kilometers north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the wide Angillon plateau west of the stream, between the ridges of the Côte de l'Heute in the west and the Forêt de la Fresse in the east.
The area of the 8.35 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by a plateau, which is on average 600 m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, in the north of forest. The area is drained by the Angillon , which flows south to the Ain through a wide, partly muddy lowland . To the north, the community area extends into the extensive forest area of Faye de Vers . With 660 meters the highest elevation of Vers-en-Montagne is reached on the western municipal boundary.
Neighboring municipalities of Vers-en-Montagne are Andelot-en-Montagne in the north, Chapois , Le Larderet and Le Latet in the east, Le Pasquier in the south and Valempoulières in the west.
history
The village church of Vers was first mentioned in the 11th century. The village belonged to the Salins area and was granted certain freedoms. Vers was hit by a serious plague epidemic in the 16th century. In 1639 the village was destroyed by French troops. Together with Franche-Comté , Vers came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The current parish church dates from the 15th century and was changed in the 16th and 17th centuries. Ruins of the former manor house have been preserved.

With 234 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Vers-en-Montagne is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (302 people were still counted in 1881), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Vers-en-Montagne was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D467 road from Champagnole to Salins-les-Bains . Other road connections exist with Valempoulières and Le Latet. Vers-en-Montagne has a train station on the Andelot-en-Montagne-Champagnole railway line.
