Montrond is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Montrond is located at 600  m , about nine kilometers northwest of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the area of the Côte de l'Heute at the northern foot of Mont Rond , between the Plateau Lédonia in the west and the Plateau des Angillon in the east.

The area of the 25.32 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The greater eastern part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average at 640  m and is partly made up of arable and meadow land, in the south mainly forest. The large forest areas include the Forêt de la Faye de Montrond , the Bois des Cinq-Chênes and the Bois de la Combe Pachod . The plateau descends gradually towards the south, with the municipality floor reaching as far as the course of the Angillon stream (tributary of the Ain ).

In the area of the village rises the crest of the Côte de l'Heute , which is oriented towards the southwest-northeast according to the direction of the Jura in this area. It does not form a continuous ridge, but rather breaks up into several, partly elongated elevations, which rise a maximum of 100 m above the surrounding plateaus. At 679  m , the highest point in the municipality is reached on Mont Rond . The Combe de Vaumoidon , northeast of Montrond, forms a depression between two crests of the Bois de Béguin (up to 660  m ). A small part of the municipality lies west of the Côte de l'H heute on the Plateau Lédonia (average at 580  m ). The entire municipal area does not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

In addition to the actual village, Montrond also includes several hamlets and individual farms, including:

  • La Feuilla ( 580  m ) on the eastern edge of the Plateau Lédonia
  • La Rochère ( 610  m ) at the eastern foot of Mont Rond

Neighboring municipalities of Montrond are Molain and Valempoulières in the north, Le Pasquier and Ardon in the east, Champagnole and Crotenay in the south and Besain in the west.
