geography

Valempoulières is located at 650  m , about ten kilometers north-northwest of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the western edge of the wide plateau of Angillon , at the eastern foot of the crest of the Côte de l'Today .

The area of the 16.25 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The greater eastern part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 650  m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, in the north of forest. To the west of the village rises the narrow ridge of the Côte de l'Heute , which is oriented in the south-west-north-east direction according to the strike direction of the Jura in this area. This crest is only 20 to 30 m higher than the surrounding plateaus, but rises in the northeast to a long ridge, on which the highest point of Valempoulières is reached at 766  m . A small part of the municipality is located west of the Côte de l'Today on the Plateau Lédonia. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
