La Favière is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Favière is located at 814  m , about nine kilometers east of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on the plateau south of the Val de Mièges and east of the valley basin in which the source of the Ain is located.

The area of the 2.78 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the plateau of La Favière, which averages 830  m . It rises gradually towards the south, shows only very small differences in relief and is mainly covered by meadow and pasture land. The highest point of La Favière is reached at 885  m on a hilltop near the Les Batailles corridor . The western boundary forms the steep drop to the valley basin with the Ain spring. The plateau has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the north the community area extends down into the valley of the Serpentine (tributary of the Ain).

Neighboring municipalities of La Favière are Rix in the north, Billecul in the east, Gillois in the south and Nozeroy in the west.

history

Traces of a Roman traffic route indicate that the municipality of La Favière was visited very early and possibly settled. In the Middle Ages, La Favière formed its own small lordship that was dependent on Nozeroy. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

La Favière has an oratoire built in the 19th century. The nearby karst spring of the Ain is one of the natural attractions.

With 28 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Favière is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (112 people were still counted in 1891), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, La Favière was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares near a department road that leads from Nozeroy to Les Planches-en-Montagne . Further road connections exist with Conte and Billecul.
