Rix , locally, the name is Rix-Trébief common, is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Rix is about eleven kilometers east of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming community extends in the Jura , in a slightly elevated position south of the valley of the Settière brook, opposite the Nozeroy hill.
The area of the 5.17 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The northern border always runs in the area of the Settière brook , which flows westward through a wide valley, is dammed below Trébief to the Étang de la Settière pond and drains the area over the Serpentine brook to the Ain . From the course of the stream, the community area extends southwards over the valley floodplain and the gently rising slope of Rix to the adjacent plateau, which averages 850 m . The area is mainly covered by meadow and pasture land. Rix's highest elevation is reached at 923 m on a knoll near the Le Mariage corridor .
The villages of Rix ( 775 m ) and Trébief ( 763 m ) as well as the single farm Le Barbillon belong to Rix . Neighboring communities of Rix are Nozeroy and Longcochon in the north, La Latette in the east, Fraroz and Billecul in the south and La Favière in the west.
history
Rix and Trébief are first mentioned in documents in the 14th century. Since the Middle Ages, the villages belonged to the Nozeroy rule. After a plague epidemic in the early 17th century, they were destroyed in 1639 by the troops of Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar . Together with Franche-Comté , they came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1827 when the previously independent Rix was merged with Trébief.

With 78 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Rix is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (181 people were still counted in 1896), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Rix was primarily a community characterized by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. Even today the residents live mainly from this activity. Outside of agriculture and dairy farming, there are only a few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The municipality is located off the main thoroughfares, near a departmental road that leads from Nozeroy to Cerniébaud. Another road connection is with Billecul.
