Plénise is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Plénise is located at 822  m , about twelve kilometers northeast of the city of Champagnole (beeline). The farming village extends in the Jura , on the extensive plateau that connects to the north of the Val de Mièges, in the headwaters of the Ruisseau du Gouffre de l'Houle and on the edge of the Forêt de la Joux.

The area of the 5.43 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. Almost the entire area is taken up by a plateau, which averages 840  m . It shows only very small differences in relief and is covered by meadow and pasture land, in the northern part mainly by forest. The high plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. South of the village, the communal soil extends into the valley basin of the Ruisseau du Gouffre de l'Houle , which flows south into the Val de Mièges to the serpentine and thus to the Ain . To the north, the community area extends over the high plateau into the extensive wooded area of the Forêt de la Joux . The highest point of Plénise is reached on a knoll at 907  m .

Neighboring municipalities of Plénise are Esserval-Tartre in the north, Esserval-Combe in the east, Mièges in the south and Plénisette , Onglières and Chapois in the west.

history

Plénise was first mentioned in a document in the 15th century. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Nozeroy rule . Together with Franche-Comté , it came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The current village church of Plénise was consecrated in 1801, while the old church dates from the 17th century and is now used for other purposes.

With 62 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Plénise is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range of around 100 people, a significant decline was recorded, especially in the 1960s and 70s. Since then, the population has remained at a relatively constant level.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Plénise was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture, in particular cattle breeding and dairy farming, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main D471 road from Champagnole to Pontarlier . Another road connection exists with Mièges.
