Vannoz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vannoz is located at 593 m , about four kilometers north of the city of Champagnole . The cluster village extends in the Jura , on a plateau of the Angillon at the north foot of Mont Rivel and west of the heights of the Forêt de la Fresse .
The area of the 5.75 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by a plateau, which is on average at 600 m and consists of arable and meadow land. To the west, the community area extends to the Angillon , which drains the area to the southwest to the Ain . The southern boundary of the plateau is Mont Rivel , an isolated mountain whose wooded northern slope ( Bois de Bry ) belongs to the municipality. At 800 m , the highest point in Vannoz is reached on Mont Rivel.
Neighboring municipalities of Vannoz are Le Pasquier and Saint-Germain-en-Montagne in the north, Équevillon in the east, Champagnole in the south and Ardon in the west.
history
The municipality of Vannoz was already settled during the Gallo-Roman period. Vannoz was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The place name originally goes back to the Gallic word vanno , which means something like slope or summit . In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Montrivel lordship. Together with Franche-Comté , Vannoz came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of St. George on the central square of the village was built in the 19th century. The manor house, which today serves as a retirement home, dates from the 17th century.

With 207 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Vannoz is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been around 140 people, a slight increase in population has been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Vannoz was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, mainly in Champagnole.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is easily accessible from the main road N5, which leads from Geneva via Champagnole to Dole . Other road connections exist with Équevillon and Saint-Germain-en-Montagne.
