Le Vaudioux is a commune in the Jura department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Le Vaudioux is located at 655 m , about six kilometers south of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a hollow on the edge of the Champagnole plateau, west of the Syam basin, at the southern foot of the Chaumont.
The area of the 6.01 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the basin of Le Vaudioux, which lies at an average of 650 m and has a width of just over a kilometer. It is drained by a small stream to the southeast to the Lemme . This depression is flanked in the east by the forest ridge of the Liège ( 666 m ) and in the north by the height of the Chaumont (up to 780 m ), while in the west a step leads to the high plateau of Champagnole. At the edge of the plateau, the highest point of Le Vaudioux is reached at 848 m . To the south-east, the community area extends down to the Lemme with a narrow corner. This flows alternately through deeply cut rock gorges and valley widenings northwards until it flows into the Saine . At La Billaude it forms the Cascade de la Billaude waterfall .
The La Billaude ( 605 m ) settlement in a basin on the Lemme belongs to Le Vaudioux . Neighboring municipalities of Le Vaudioux are Cize in the north, Syam and Chaux-des-Crotenay in the east, Châtelneuf in the south and Pillemoine in the west.
history
Since the Middle Ages, Le Vaudioux has been part of the Kastlanei Châtelneuf. In the 14th century, La Billaude was the location of a brick factory. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Le Vaudioux was built in the 19th century. The Cascades de la Billaude (also known as Saut Claude Roy) are among the natural attractions. Here the Lemme plunges into a rocky gorge with two waterfalls (a total of 28 m high).

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Le Vaudioux was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. The long-established sawmill of La Billaude is important. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N5, which runs from Champagnole to Morez . There are further road connections with Loulle and Châtelneuf. Le Vaudioux has a train station on the Champagnole-Morez railway line, which opened in 1900.
