Verges is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Verges is located at 515 m , about ten kilometers east-southeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The clustered village extends in the Jura , in the south of the Lédonia plateau (first Jura plateau), at the western foot of the Côte de l'Heute.
The area of the 6.16 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which is on average at 520 m and consists partly of arable and meadow land, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the east, the community area extends over a relatively steep slope up to the crest of the Côte de l'Heute , which separates the plateau from the Ain valley to the east . The highest point of Verges is reached on the ridge at 613 m . In the north, the municipality extends into the extensive forest of the Bois des Chaumois .
Neighboring municipalities of Verges are Vevy in the west and north, Châtillon in the east and Blye and Publy in the south.
history
In the Middle Ages, Verges belonged to the Barony of Binans. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Michel was built from 1833 to 1836. In the middle of the village stands the castle with its four corner towers, which was built in 1562 and restored and redesigned in the 18th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Verges was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Vevy, there are other road links with Châtillon, Publy and Blye.
