geography

Château-Chalon as seen from Nevy-sur-Seille. The vineyards of the village can be seen on the steep slope

Château-Chalon is located at an average of 435 m, about ten kilometers northeast of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , at the transition from the Bresse plain to the first Jura plateau , on a steep slope east of the Seille .

The jump from the plain to the first Jura plateau is particularly pronounced here. While the edge is usually barely higher than 120 m, it reaches almost 200 m at Château-Chalon. The bottom formation of the Lias is almost completely exposed here.
