geography

Pont-du-Navoy is located at 480  m , about 18 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The clustered village extends in the Jura , in the valley of the Combe d'Ain, at a bridge crossing over the Ain between the ridge of the heute in the west and the high plateau of Champagnole in the east.

The area of the 9.46 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the wide depression of the Ain, which averages 480  m . In this area, the river enters the Combe d'Ain from a valley sunk into the surrounding plateaus from the east and changes its direction of flow in this broad valley to the south. With a narrow tip, the communal soil extends eastward to the plateau at the foot of the Bois des Chaumois . From the Combe d'Ain, the community area extends westward over a densely wooded slope to the crest of today , which marks the western border. Here, at 741  m, the highest point of Pont-du-Navoy is reached.

The village of Les Forges ( 475  m ) in the valley of the Ain and some individual farms belong to Pont-du-Navoy . Neighboring communes of Pont-du-Navoy are Crotenay in the north, Champagnole and Monnet-la-Ville in the east, Montigny-sur-l'Ain and Hauteroche with Mirebel in the south and Bonnefontaine in the west.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Pont-du-Navoy was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In the 17th century several blacksmiths were built south of the village, which were operated by the water power of the Ain. A side canal to the Ain was built especially for these companies. Today there are some local small businesses, including a cheese dairy. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road D471, which leads from Lons-le-Saunier to Champagnole. Other road connections exist with Doucier , Monnet-la-Ville and Picarreau .
