Andelot-en-Montagne is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

Andelot-en-Montagne lies at 606 m above sea level. M., about twelve kilometers north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The clustered village extends in the Jura , on the Angillon plateau in the headwaters of the Bief d'Andelot, between the ridges of the Forêt des Moidons in the west and the Forêt de la Joux in the east.

The area of ​​the 12.48 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which on average is 620 m above sea level. M. is located and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. The area is drained by the Bief d'Andelot , which flows through a wide, partly muddy flood plain south to Angillon (tributary of the Ain ). To the west, the municipal area extends into the extensive wooded area of ​​the Bois de Monthauthier et Creux de Fer . On a ridge of this forest is 748 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Andelot-en-Montagne.

Andelot-en-Montagne includes the Andelot-Dessous district (603 m above sea level) southwest of the village and a few individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Andelot-en-Montagne are Aresches and Lemuy in the north, Montmarlon and Supt in the east, Chapois and Vers-en-Montagne in the south and Valempoulières and Pont-d'Héry in the west.

history

Andelot was first mentioned in a document in 1269. In the Middle Ages, the place formed its own rule. Together with Franche-Comté , Andelot came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 526 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Andelot-en-Montagne is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (813 people were still counted in 1901), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Andelot-en-Montagne was a predominantly agricultural and forestry village well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, mainly wood processing and retail. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main D467 road from Champagnole to Salins-les-Bains . Further road connections exist with Censeau , Chapois and Lemuy. Andelot-en-Montagne has a train station on the railway line from Dijon via Frasne to Lausanne . The branch of the branch line via Champagnole to Morez and Saint-Claude is also located here .
