Pont-d'Héry is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Pont-d'Héry is located at 590 m , south of Salins-les-Bains and about 14 km north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a valley basin in the headwaters of the Furieuse on the first Jura plateau, north of the heights of Monthauthier.
The area of the 13.54 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the valley basin of Pont-d'Héry, in which the Furieuse rises. In the west, the communal soil extends to the adjacent Jura plateau and in the south to the extensive forest area of the Forêt des Moidons . At 781 m , the highest point of Pont-d'Héry is reached at a wooded height, which is the north-eastern continuation of the Côte de l'Today . To the east of the valley is the height of the Bois de Monthauthier et Creux de Fer ( 748 m ). To the north, the community area extends with a narrow strip into the valley of the Furieuse. The river sinks deep into the surrounding plateaus with an erosion valley and drains the area north to the Loue . At its upper edge the valley is crowned by limestone walls.
In addition to the actual village, Pont-d'Héry also includes various hamlets and farm groups, including:
- Fonteny ( 520 m ) in the valley of the Furieuse
- Moutaine-le-Haut ( 500 m ) in the valley of the Furieuse
- Moutaine-le-Bas ( 460 m ) in the valley of the Furieuse
- Boisset ( 530 m ) in a short eastern side valley of the Furieuse
Neighboring municipalities of Pont-d'Héry are Salins-les-Bains and Thésy in the north, Aresches and Andelot-en-Montagne in the east, Valempoulières in the south and Chaux-Champagny in the west.
history
Pont-d'Héry was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule of Aresches and the provost of Salins. Together with Franche-Comté , it came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1972 when the two previously independent municipalities Fonteny and Moutaine were incorporated into Pont-d'Héry.
Attractions
The village church of Pont-d'Héry was built in the 17th century. Also worth mentioning are the Chapelle des Mages and the ruins of the former Vaux-Grillet castle.

With 234 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Pont-d'Héry is one of the small communities in the Jura department. In the course of the 20th century, the population had decreased significantly. Only since around 2000 has the population increased again.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Pont-d'Héry was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including wood processing. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road D467 from Salins-les-Bains to Champagnole. Other road connections exist with Arbois , Aresches and Valempoulières.
