La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse |
La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse is located at 280 m , about 29 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Dole (beeline). The village extends in the western Jura , in the valley of the Furieuse shortly before its confluence with the Loue , on both sides of the Ruisseau d'Ivrey at the northwest foot of Mont Poupet .
The area of the 9.03 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Furieuse valley basin, which is oriented in a north-south direction. While the valley in the south of the municipality is still narrow, the valley floor at La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse widens to a width of around one kilometer. In the far north the area extends into the basin of the Loue. In the west, the municipal boundary runs on the wooded hilltops at the height of Vaulgrenant (up to 460 m ). To the east, the community area extends into the lower section of the deeply carved erosion valley of the Ruisseau d'Ivrey and the surrounding, mostly wooded slopes at the foot of Mont Poupet. At 550 m , La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse's highest point is reached at the height of By.
In addition to the actual village, La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse also includes several hamlets and individual farms, including:
- Saint-Benoît ( 295 m ) in the valley of the Furieuse at the eastern foot of the heights of Vaulgrenant
- Onay ( 340 m ) on a ledge above the valley of the Furieuse at the western foot of Mont Poupet
Neighboring municipalities of La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse are Rennes-sur-Loue in the north, By , Ivrey and Saint-Thiébaud in the east, Salins-les-Bains and Marnoz in the south and Pagnoz and Grange-de-Vaivre in the west.
history
Various finds indicate that the municipality of La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse was already populated in prehistoric times and during the Gallo-Roman period.
In the years 1636 to 1638 the village was hit by severe plague epidemics. Together with Franche-Comté , it came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1825 when the previously independent communities Onay and Chilley (today Saint-Benoît) were incorporated into La Chapelle.
In order to avoid confusion with other parishes of the same name, La Chapelle was officially renamed La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse in 1933.
Attractions
The village church of La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse was built in the 16th century and modified in the 17th century. Next to the church is a manor house that was built in the 18th century. In the Saint-Benoît chapel there is a stone statue from the 15th century. The hamlet of Onay also has a small chapel from the 17th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, viticulture and fruit growing) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small-scale businesses, especially in the wood processing sector. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Salins-les-Bains to Quingey . There are other road links with Rennes-sur-Loue, By and Ivrey.
