Ivrey is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Ivrey is at 449 m , north of Salins-les-Bains and about 33 km east-southeast of the city of Dole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the western Jura , in a basin of the Ruisseau d'Ivrey, at the northern foot of Mont Poupet .
The area of the 6.67 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Ivrey basin, which is flanked in the north and south by steep slopes, which are crowned at the top by rock walls. The basin is drained by the Ruisseau d'Ivrey to the west through a gorge to the Furieuse . In the south, the municipality extends to the flank of Mont Poupet (with the Bois de Lézinet ), at which the highest elevation of Ivrey is reached at 810 m . To the north the municipal area extends to the height of Ivrey ( 626 m ) and with a long narrow tip to the northeast to the densely wooded ridge of the Bois de la Chainée ( 606 m ).
Neighboring municipalities of Ivrey are By and Bartherans in the north, Myon and Salins-les-Bains in the east, Saint-Thiébaud in the south and La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse in the west.
history
The municipality of Ivrey was already settled during the Gallo-Roman period. In the Middle Ages, Ivrey belonged to the Château de Bracon. From the 15th to the 17th century it was the site of a hospital. Together with Franche-Comté, the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Ivrey, the chapel of the former hospital, dates from the 15th century.

With 61 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Ivrey is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (191 people were still counted in 1881), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Ivrey was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse. There are other road connections with Saint-Thiébaud and Saizenay.
