Clucy is a commune in the Jura department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Clucy is located at 608  m , east of Salins-les-Bains and about 23 km north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on the first Jura plateau, on a plateau east of the erosion valley of the Furieuse on the edge of the basin of the Ruisseau de Gouaille.

The area of the 5.13 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the plateau of the Jura, which is an average of 620  m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. The area is drained by the Ruisseau de Gouaille , which flows through a wide basin and then suddenly falls over a rock face into the valley of Blégny in the erosion valley of the Furieuse. To the west of the village, the plateau becomes noticeably narrower and ends with Fort Belin (just outside the municipality) directly above Salins-les-Bains. The municipal boundary always runs above the steep drop to the surrounding valleys. At 718  m , the highest point of Clucy is reached on the hill west of the village. To the east, the municipality extends to the Mont Oiseau ( 676  m ) and to the edge of the Bois des Paules .

The hamlet of Le Tilleret ( 635  m ) on the plateau south of the Ruisseau de Gouaille belongs to Clucy. Neighboring communities of Clucy are Salins-les-Bains in the south, west and north and Geraise and Cernans in the east.

history

The municipality of Clucy was already settled in prehistoric times and during the Gallo-Roman period. Clucy is first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the reign of Châtel-Belin. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The former chapel from the 18th century has been converted into a cheese dairy. The village fountain dates from the 19th century.

With 78 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Clucy is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (138 people were still counted in 1911), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Clucy was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century. Iron mines used to be mined here. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from the D72, which runs from Salins-les-Bains to Pontarlier . Another road connection is with Geraise.
