Marnoz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Marnoz is 340 m west of Salins-les-Bains and about 30 km southeast of the city of Dole (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , at the north foot of Mont Begon, west of the valley of the brook Vache in a hollow of the Furieuse at the foot of Mont Poupet .
The area of the 4.87 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Marnoz Basin, which extends at the foot of the Jura plateau. It is drained north to the Furieuse by the brook Vache , which in parts forms the eastern border. In the south, the community area extends to the heights of Château and Mont Begon , where the highest point of Marnoz is reached at 616 m . The northern boundary of the valley basin forms the height of Vaulgrenant ( 454 m ).
Marnoz includes the hamlet of Saint-Michel ( 360 m ) east of the Vache at the northern foot of Château and some individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Marnoz are Pagnoz and La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse in the north, Salins-les-Bains in the east, Pretin in the south and Aiglepierre in the west.
history
The municipality of Marnoz was already settled during the Gallo-Roman period. In the Middle Ages, Marnoz formed its own small rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The church in the hamlet of Saint-Michel is richly decorated , including statues from the 15th century and wood carvings. Of the secular buildings, the ruins of the Château de Saint-Michel and the Pillot mansion should be mentioned.

With 404 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Marnoz is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (362 people were still counted in 1891), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Marnoz was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, viticulture and fruit growing). In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including a cardboard factory. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main D472 road from Dole to Salins-les-Bains. There are other road links with Les Arsures, Aiglepierre and Pretin.
