Dampierre is a French commune with 1,278 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dole , the canton of Mont-sous-Vaudrey and is the seat of the Jura Nord municipality .

It was created as the Commune nouvelle of the same name with effect from January 1, 2019 by amalgamating the previous municipalities of Dampierre and Le Petit-Mercey , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Dampierre.

geography

The municipality is located around 22 kilometers west-southwest of Besançon . It is touched in the south by the Doubs River and the parallel Rhine-Rhône Canal . In addition, the A36 motorway and the Dole – Belfort railway line cross the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Mercey-le-Grand in the north, Évans in the east, Fraisans in the south, Ranchot in the west and Louvatange and Romain in the northwest.
