Lemuy is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Lemuy is located at 630  m , about 18 kilometers north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on an extensive plateau on the western edge of the Forêt de la Joux, on the edge of the marshy plain of the Lizon Supérieur (also called Ruisseau de Lemuy).

The area of ​​the 21.33 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the wide valley of Lemuy, which formerly formed an extensive moorland, but is now mostly drained. In this lowland, the Ruisseau des Joncs and Ruisseau de Montorge streams join with the Lizon Supérieur, which drains the area to the north. At the foot of the Côte Ribalet, the Lizon Supérieur, which belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Source du Lison near Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne , seeps away . In the west, the communal soil extends to the wooded hill of Saint-Claude.

To the east, the community area extends into the forest area of ​​the Forêt de la Joux . On a ridge, which is oriented according to the direction of strike of the Jura in this area towards the southwest-northeast, is 885 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Lemuy. In the extreme east, the area extends to the edge of the plateau of the second Jura plateau.

Lemuy includes the hamlet of Pont-à-Moujard ( 616  m ) at the foot of the Côte Ribalet near the infiltration point of the Lizon Supérieur and some individual farms. Lemuy's neighboring municipalities are Dournon and Arc-sous-Montenot in the north, Villers-sous-Chalamont and Boujailles in the east, Supt and Montmarlon in the south and Andelot-en-Montagne , Thésy and Abergement-lès-Thésy in the west.

history

Lemuy is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century. The place name is probably of Celtic origin. The noble family von Pont-à-Moujard has been mentioned since the 13th century, whose castle was demolished on the orders of King Louis XIV . Together with Franche-Comté , Lemuy came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The village church of Lemuy was built in the 19th century and has a pulpit from the 18th century. In the chapel of the rectory (19th century) is the statue of Notre-Dame-des-Aventures, which dates from the 15th century. In a clearing to the west of the village is the 19th century Saint-Claude chapel. The stone cross in Pont-à-Moujard was created in the 16th century.

With 238 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Lemuy is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (437 people were still counted in 1881), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s. Recently, however, there has been a slow decline in population again.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Lemuy was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, mainly wood processing and retail. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Andelot-en-Montagne to Dournon. Further road connections exist with Thésy, Abergement-lès-Thésy, Arc-sous-Montenot and Montmarlon.
