Aresches is a French commune in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté , in the department of Jura . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dole and the Canton of Arbois . The place has 32 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

geography

Aresches is located at 705  m , south of Salins-les-Bains and about 18 kilometers north of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , on the first Jura plateau, high above the erosion valley of the Furieuse .

The area of the 4.76 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of the Jura plateau, which lies at an average of 700  m and consists partly of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the southeast, the municipality extends into the wooded area of the Bois de la Foye . At 736  m , the highest point of Aresches is reached on a knoll in this forest. The western demarcation mostly runs along the upper edge of the steep slope, partly criss-crossed by rock walls, which slopes down to the deeply cut valley of the Furieuse. Neighboring communities of Aresches are Thésy in the north, Lemuy in the east, Andelot-en-Montagne in the south and Pont-d'Héry in the west.

history

Aresches is first mentioned in a document as early as 941 under the name Arecii ; The name Aresche has been handed down from 1246 . The place name goes back to the French word arracher (to tear out) and denotes a cleared area. Aresches, which formed its own small dominion in the Middle Ages, was destroyed in 1595 by the troops of King Henry IV . The village of Sercenne was buried under the rubble of a landslide in 1649 (then larger than Aresches). Together with Franche-Comté , Aresches came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Aresches belonged to the municipality of Moutaine from 1826 to 1950, and since then it has been an independent municipality again.

Attractions

The village church of Aresches was built in the 16th century. The choir dates from the 17th century and the bell tower was built in the 19th century. The church has a remarkable interior .

Economy and Infrastructure

Aresches was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry until well into the 20th century . Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D467, which leads from Salins-les-Bains to Champagnole . There are other road connections with Pont-d'Héry, Thésy and Andelot-en-Montagne.
