Le Fied is a commune in the Jura department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Le Fied is located at 528 m , about 17 kilometers northeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the central part of the Plateau Lédonia (first Jura plateau), between the erosion valleys of the Seille (Cirque de Ladoye) in the west and the ridge of the Côte de l'Hoday in the east.
The area of the 8.39 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which is an average of 530 m and consists partly of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the east, the community area extends to the edge of the extensive forest area of the Forêt de Poligny . At 562 m , the highest point of Le Fied is reached on the western edge of the municipality.
Neighboring municipalities of Le Fied are Plasne , Barretaine and Poligny in the north, Picarreau in the east, Fay-en-Montagne in the south and Ladoye-sur-Seille and Château-Chalon in the west.
history
The municipality of Le Fied was settled very early. A Roman traffic route passed near the village, which was a trade route that connected the former settlements at Poligny and Villards-d'Héria . Several Roman wells were also discovered on the site. The place name goes back to the French word fief (fiefdom). In 1447, Le Fied was raised to an independent small rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The 16th century parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was restored and remodeled in 1823.

With 204 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Le Fied is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had declined markedly in the first half of the 20th century (415 people were still counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Le Fied was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares, near a departmental road that leads from Voiteur via Crotenay to Champagnole . Further road connections exist with Fay-en-Montagne and Poligny.
