history

Various finds, including Greek ceramic fragments, indicate that the Pretin parish was already inhabited in prehistoric times and during the Gallo-Roman period. There was an oppidum on the hill of Château during the Iron Age .

In the 9th century, the Notre-Dame de Château-sur-Salins priory was founded, initially dependent on the Abbey of Gigny and later on the Saint-Maurice chapter and destroyed in the course of the French Revolution . Together with Franche-Comté , Pretin came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The village church of Pretin was built in the 19th century. The pulpit and a statue from the 13th century come from the former priory church.

With 61 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Pretin is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (180 people were still counted in 1891), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Pretin was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Salins-les-Bains.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a local road that leads from Marnoz to Bracon.
