Jouhe is a French municipality with 563 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Dole , the canton Authume and the municipal association Grand-Dole .
geography
Jouhe is located in the northwest of the Jura department at an average altitude of 272 meters above sea level, about 35 kilometers south-east of Dijon , the seat of the prefecture of the Côte-d'Or , and 5 kilometers north of Dole , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the Dole arrondissement , north of the Mont Roland mountain . The municipality has an area of 5.96 square kilometers.
history
The Notre-Dame chapel on Mont Roland was a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages . At the same time there was a Benedictine - Priory in Jouhe that the village was under . The priory was dissolved in April 1790 during the French Revolution (1789–1799).
In 1793 Jouhe received the status of a municipality through the French Revolution and in 1801 through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) the right to local self-government. The community had the largest number of inhabitants (669) in 1836, but the number of inhabitants has decreased since the end of the 19th century. The community had the fewest inhabitants (315) in 1962. From the 1980s the number of inhabitants increased again.
Culture and sights
The choir of the parish church of Saint-Pierre dates from the 16th century, the nave was renewed in 1749. The church did not belong to the old priory. In the church there is a pulpit from the 18th century, which is decorated with reliefs. It was classified as a Monument historique ('historical monument') in 1957 . Listed paintings in the church are six votive paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, a painting dated to 1700 and depicting the end of the schism of Anaklet II by Bernhard von Clairvaux , and a painting by Giuseppe Passeri (1654 –1714) and shows the entry of Bernhard into Cîteaux . Several statues are also classified as Monument historique, including eight statues from the 18th century, two statues from the 16th century and a statue of the Virgin and Child from the 12th century. The statue was taken from the Notre-Dame chapel on Mont Roland in 1789 to protect it from being destroyed by revolutionaries. It is the oldest pilgrim statue of its kind in the Jura department.
In the Notre-Dame chapel there is a painting from 1631 depicting a nobleman kneeling in front of the statue of the Virgin and Child, it was classified as a Monument historique in 1975.
From the castle of Jouhe only one tower from the 14th century has been preserved.
Infrastructure
The A36 autoroute , called La Comtoise , runs south of the center of Jouhe and is also European route 60 here . The nearest train station is in Dole. The nearest airport is Dole-Jura Airport , which is 12.3 kilometers away. It is in the municipal areas of Tavaux and Gevry .
There is a primary school in Jouhe. The buildings of the former priory are now used by the Les Cèdres boarding school founded in 1929 .
