Lemuy ( Mapudungun for forested ) is an island in southern Chile in the Región de los Lagos . It is the third largest island in the Chiloé archipelago after Chiloé itself and Quinchao . It has an area of ​​97 km². The island is dominated by agriculture, slightly hilly and easily accessible with an hourly car ferry from the larger Isla de Chiloé.

On the island are nine boroughs that the Municipality ( Communa ) Puqueldón form with 4125 inhabitants.

  • Chulchuy. From here the ferry to Huicha runs not far from Chonchi on the larger neighboring island of Chiloé.

Some of the wooden churches of Lemuy, namely Jesus Nazareno in Aldachildo , Virgen de la Candelaria in Ichuac and de Virgen Lourdes in Detif were in the 2000 along with other of the Chiloé Archipelago World Heritage Site of UNESCO added.

The church Iglesia San Jesús Nazareno in Aldachildo on the north coast of Isla Lemuy was built towards the end of the 19th century and declared a national cultural monument on August 10, 1999, before being included in the world cultural heritage in November 2000. Renovations - especially in the area of ​​the tower and facade - took place in 2005 and 2007. The church, which can be seen from afar, is located in the town center not far from the beach.
