Pillemoine is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Pillemoine is located at 667 m , about five kilometers south of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a hollow on the high plateau of Champagnole, the second plateau of the western Jura, west of the upper Ain valley .
The area of the 4.69 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the hollow of Pillemoine, which lies at an average of 660 m and has a width of around one kilometer. It is moored and is drained by a small stream to the southeast to the Lemme . This depression is flanked on three sides by the heights of the Champagnole plateau: to the west of Les Pésières ( 770 m ), to the north by the Surmont and to the north-east by the ridge of the Chaumont , which drops steeply towards the Ain valley. The highest point of Pillemoine is reached here at 816 m .
Neighboring municipalities of Pillemoine are Cize in the north, Le Vaudioux in the east, Châtelneuf in the south and Loulle in the west.
history
The village was founded in the 15th century by Pierre Pillemoine and took his family name. It belonged to the Châtelneuf castellany . Together with Franche-Comté , Pillemoine came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 58 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Pillemoine is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range of around 75 people, a clear population decline was recorded until the 1990s. Since then, the population has increased slightly again.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Pillemoine was primarily a village characterized by agriculture , in particular cattle and dairy farming, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Le Vaudioux to Mont-sur-Monnet . Another road connection is with Châtelneuf.
