Conliège is a commune in the Jura department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lons-le-Saunier and was the capital of the canton of Poligny until 2015 . The inhabitants of the place are called Conliègeois or Conliègeoises .
geography
Conliège is located southeast of Lons-le-Saunier and is traversed in the western part of the municipality by the river Vallière in a south-north direction. The D678 from Lons-le-Saunier to the south runs almost parallel to this. The neighboring parishes are Briod in the northeast, Publy in the southeast, Revigny in the south, Montaigu in the west and Perrigny in the northwest.
history
The original village was slightly elevated in Coldre , where the Saint-Etienne church is still located today . Today the small town of Conliège lies at the foot of this hill along the Vallière . It freed itself from the burden of feudalism early on and has existed as a civil parish since the 14th century. Many proud town houses of the old families can still be seen today. On the other hand, many farmers , winegrowers and ordinary people paid tithes to Conliège and thus contributed to the prosperity of the place. Since the 16th century, a large number of town houses have been built along the three main streets of the village, which give the place its special atmosphere. Many houses in elegant neo-Gothic or classicism were built as actual wine-growing houses, with spacious, partly underground cellars, which still give an idea of the wealth of the 16th century.
