Poids-de-Fiole is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Poids-de-Fiole is at 540 m , about ten kilometers southeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the extreme south of the Plateau Lédonia (first Jura plateau), between the heights of the Bois du Chanois in the west and the Côte de l'Heute in the east.
The area of the 6.49 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which is an average of 530 m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the west, the municipal area extends into the forest area and onto the hill of the Bois du Chanois , on which the highest point of Poids-de-Fiole is reached at 611 m .
Neighboring communities of Poids-de-Fiole are Revigny and Publy in the north, Nogna in the east, Marnézia in the south and Alièze and Saint-Maur in the west.
history
The municipality of Poids-de-Fiole was already settled during the Gallo-Roman period, as evidenced by the foundations of a Roman estate. The place was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. The place name Poids-de-Fiole developed from the earlier Puits-de-Fiole . It goes back to seven Roman wells ( puits ), which were arranged in the form of a vial . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1820 Poids-de-Fiole merged with Nogna, but was separated again in 1839 and has since formed an independent municipality.
Attractions
The village church of Poids-de-Fiole was built in the 16th century.
