Anton Nekovar

Anton Nekovar (born April 21, 1950 in Vienna ; † November 2, 2014 there ) was an Austrian theater actor , dramaturge and artistic director .

Life

As the son of a carpenter, Anton Nekovar graduated from a humanistic grammar school in Vienna and trained as a carpenter. In parallel to training in directing and acting, he studied German , philosophy and theater studies at the University of Vienna .

Subsequently, Nekovar worked as an actor, among other things, at the Vienna Volkstheater and was dramaturge and senior stage director in Baden, which is near Vienna . He was the director of the New Theater in Lower Austria . He also directed more than 80 productions.

From 2005 to 2010 he was director of the Vorpommern Theater in Greifswald , Stralsund and Putbus . On May 28, 2010, while he was on tour in Japan, he was dismissed from his post as artistic director with immediate effect by the shareholders of the Vorpommern Theater. On January 15, 2013, the Hanseatic City of Greifswald announced that Theater Vorpommern GmbH and Anton Nekovar parted ways “by mutual agreement, respecting both the aspects of the cooperation that were jointly assessed as successful and the different views that emerged”. The parties have agreed not to disclose the amount of the agreed severance payment.

In January 2011 he worked as a director at the Prague State Opera .

The Austrian Federal President awarded Nekovar the title of "Professor" in 2006.

On November 2nd, 2014 Nekovar died after a serious illness at the age of 64 in Vienna.
