Lent is a municipality in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Lent is located at 740  m , about five kilometers east of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a panoramic location on a slope slightly inclined to the southeast, around 140 m above the wide valley basin of the Val de Sirod ( flowed through by the upper Ain ).

The area of the 4.11 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the Lent plateau, which lies at an average of 750  m and is covered with arable land, meadow land and forest. It slopes down towards the west, south and east to the adjacent valley furrows and basins, with the municipality boundary running above the steep slope. In the northern part of the area there is a basin of the Ruisseau de Peuly , which is connected to the catchment area of the Loudaine by the Cluse d'Entreporte . At 808  m , the highest point of Lent is reached north of this valley breakthrough.

Neighboring municipalities of Lent are Mournans-Charbonny and Charency in the north, Sirod in the east and south and Bourg-de-Sirod and Sapois in the west.

history

Since the Middle Ages, Lent has belonged to the parish of Sirod and the barony of Château-Vilain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1823 Lent merged with Sirod, but was separated again in 1842 and has since formed an independent municipality.

After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (130 people were still counted in 1906), a population increase has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Lent is still a predominantly agricultural village today. Besides agriculture, there are only a few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D471, which runs from Champagnole to Pontarlier . There are other road connections with Sirod and Charency.
