La Marre is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Marre is located at 530 m , about 13 kilometers northeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the central part of the Plateau Lédonia (first Jura plateau), between the erosion valleys of the Seille in the west and the Côte de l'Heute in the east.
The area of the 10.63 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which is an average of 530 m and consists partly of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the north-west, the communal soil extends to the upper edge of the steep slope, partly criss-crossed by rock walls, which surrounds the deeply cut valley of Ladoye. To the east, the community area extends into the vast wooded area of the Bois du Chanay . At 576 m , the highest point in La Marre is reached here.
Neighboring municipalities of La Marre are Ladoye-sur-Seille and Fay-en-Montagne in the north, Bonnefontaine in the east, Hauteroche with the villages of Mirebel and Granges-sur-Baume in the south and Nevy-sur-Seille and Blois-sur-Seille in the west .
history
The municipality of La Marre was already settled in prehistoric times. The place name is derived from the old French word mare (moor), because the first houses in the village were grouped around a small moor. In the Middle Ages, La Marre belonged to the rule of Mirebel. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The current village church of Sainte-Trinité was built in 1815 on the site of a former chapel.

With 338 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Marre is one of the small communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (490 people were still counted in 1881), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Marre was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including wood processing and electromechanics. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Poligny to Mirebel. Other road links exist with Fay-en-Montagne, Bonnefontaine, Baume-les-Messieurs and Crançot .
