Granges-sur-Baume is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Haute Roche with 128 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Granges-sur-Baume is located at 495  m , about nine kilometers northeast of the city of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the central part of the Lédonia plateau (first Jura plateau), on the edge of the erosion valley of Baume-les-Messieurs.

The area of the 7.93 km² former municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the plain of the Plateau Lédonia, which lies at an average of 500  m and is partly made up of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The western boundary always runs along the upper edge of the steep slope, partly criss-crossed by rock faces, which surrounds the deeply cut valleys of Baume-les-Messieurs and Ladoye. To the east, the municipal area extends into the extensive wooded area of the Bois de Rarateau . At 550  m , the highest point of Granges-sur-Baume is reached here.

Neighboring towns of Granges-sur-Baume are Nevy-sur-Seille and La Marre in the north, Mirebel in the east and Baume-les-Messieurs in the south and west.

history

The municipality of Granges-sur-Baume was already populated during the Gallo-Roman period. The place name is derived from the popular Latin word granica (barn). Until 1789 Granges-sur-Baume formed a parish together with Baume-les-Messieurs.

With effect from January 1, 2016, Granges-sur-Baume was merged with the former municipalities of Crançot and Mirebel to form the Commune nouvelle Hauteroche. The municipality of Granges-sur-Baume belonged to the arrondissement of Lons-le-Saunier and the canton of Poligny .
