Attractions

Most of the houses and fortified gates date from the 13th century, as is the Saint-Genest church .

The relics of Saint Regina , which were later transferred to Alise-Sainte-Reine , have been kept in the former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Pierre with the crypt from the Carolingian era since 874 . In the abbey there is a factory where the famous Anis de Flavigny sweets are made. The crypt can be visited free of charge all day.

Others

  • Flavigny has a well-known factory that makes aniseed sweets. It is unmistakable that each of the candies has a core made of real aniseed . Using a complex technique, the aniseed core is brought together with the candy mass in a drum for hours. This works by the mass gradually growing around the anise like snowflakes using a strong supply of air. The factory can be visited free of charge in the morning.
  • In the village there is a seminary of the Society of St. Pius X.
  • Since 1976 the place has been home to a new Benedictine monastery , the Abbaye Saint-Joseph de Clairval , which was elevated to an abbey by the Holy See in 1992 .
  • Flavigny is on the Camino de Santiago to Vézelay .
  • The village was used in 2000 as the setting for the movie Chocolat with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp .
