Vesvres is a French municipality with 27 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Côte-d'Or in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016: Burgundy ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montbard and the canton of Semur-en-Auxois (until 2015: canton of Vitteaux ).

The inhabitants are called Vesvriens and Vesvriennes .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of 140 at the beginning of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell before it stabilized at a level of around 25 inhabitants at the turn of the millennium.

Parish Church of Saint-Baudri

Parish Church of Saint-Baudri

It is dedicated to Saint Balderich, a monastery founder and abbot in Montfaucon-d'Argonne in Champagne .

Four furnishings of the church are classified or inscribed as a monument historique of movable property. It is a matter of:

  • an 18th century painting depicting the flagellation of Christ .
  • a statue from the 17th century, probably made of painted and gilded wood, depicting the patron saint , St. Balderich. He has raised his right hand and carries a purse on his belt.
  • a statue depicting St. Leonhard from the 17th century made of painted and gilded stone. He is dressed in the habit of an abbot and carries a crook in his left hand and an indefinite object in his right hand.
  • a 16th century statue made of painted limestone depicting Mary with baby Jesus .
