In 1372 the nobleman Jean de Ruffey held a fiefdom of the Duke of Burgundy , in Verrey-sous-Salmaise a house, a moth , an orchard with outbuildings and a farm between the reservoir of the watermill and the river Verrey. This included half of the mill, jurisdiction over these inheritances, and half jurisdiction over the parish he shared with the duke. The Thésut family appeared in Verrey in 1550 on the occasion of a marriage between Bénigne Julien and Jacques de Thésut, who passed the whole area into their hands at the end of the 16th century. A mansion was built, but was demolished by Guillaume de Thésut in 1769 and replaced by a new building with a castle chapel . He set up a library there with an archaeological collection. The property was confiscated during the French Revolution . As a result, it changed hands several times and the gardens were removed.
