Noyers ( pronunciation : [ nwajɛʁ ]), often Noyers-sur-Serein called in contrast to other towns of the same name, is a French village with 580 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Yonne department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Avallon and the Canton of Chablis .

The residents call themselves Nucériens . The commune on the river Serein with its well-preserved medieval castle is considered one of the most beautiful in Burgundy and has been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in France .

history

A settlement with the name Lucidorius is mentioned for the first time around the time of the conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar . The first castle complex was built around 1190, which was later expanded into a larger fortification by Hugo von Noyers, Bishop of Auxerre, by the end of the 12th century. From 1419 the place and the castle were owned by the Dukes of Burgundy .
