Arcy-sur-Cure is a French municipality with 484 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Region Bourgogne Franche-Comté in the Yonne department . It is assigned to the canton of Joux-la-Ville (until 2015: canton of Vermenton ) and the arrondissement of Avallon .
geography
The community is located 25 kilometers south-southeast of Auxerre on the Cure . Arcy-sur-Cure is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bessy-sur-Cure in the north and north-west, Lucy-sur-Cure in the north and north-west, Joux-la-Ville in the east and north-east, Précy-le-Sec in the east and south-east, Saint-Moré in the south, Blannay in the south and south-west, Montillot and Bois-d'Arcy in the south-west and Mailly-la-Ville in the west.
The former route nationale 6 (today's D606) runs through the municipality .
history
The Arcy-sur-Cure caves document an early presence of Neanderthals. The paintings are assigned to the Franco-Cantabrian cave art . The caves have been inhabited for 200,000 years. The cave paintings are said to have been created 30,000 years ago.
