Épineuil is located near the Canal de Bourgogne , 32 kilometers northeast of Auxerre , the capital of the Yonne department. Neighboring municipalities of Épineuil are Junay in the west, Molosmes in the east, Saint-Vincent-des-Bois in the east, Saint-Martin-sur-Armançon in the southeast and Tonnerre in the south.
