from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicolaus Cracoviensis or Nikolaus von Krakau ( Polish: Mikołaj z Krakowa , * possibly in Krakow ; † around 1550 there) was a Polish composer.

Little is known about his living conditions. In 1488 his name appears in the archives of the Cracow University and is believed to have been the organist at the Cracow court. In Polish organ tablatures, including the Johannes von Lublin tablature (1537–48) and the Cracow tablature (1548), parts of masses and officies , motets , polyphonic songs , dances and preludes that show Italian influences have come down to us.

The best known is his choral work Aleć nade mną Wenus ( You, Venus, over me ).
