Max Steen

Max Steen (born June 18, 1898 in Büdelsdorf ; † June 6, 1997 ) was a German teacher and local researcher . In his work he dealt in particular with the history of the city of Bad Schwartau . In addition, he appeared as a promoter of the Low German language .

Steen first grew up in his birthplace. He completed the teachers' seminar in Rendsburg . In 1920 he came to Pansdorf and finally settled permanently in Rensefeld in 1929 . From 1929 until his retirement in 1964, he worked as a teacher at the local elementary and secondary school, which he also headed as rector from 1948 .

In addition to his job, he devoted himself to researching local history and maintaining the Low German language . Steen published books with stories in Low German and works on local history. In addition, he made a lasting contribution to the development of the Bad Schwartau local history museum , of which he was the first curator .

Max Steen was a founding member in 1966 and was secretary of the Eutin home association until 1974 .

  • June 12, 1981: Award of the Schleswig-Holstein Medal as a token of grateful recognition for outstanding services to the homeland
  • June 18, 1983: Honorary citizenship of the city of Bad Schwartau, on the occasion of his 85th birthday
  • The Max-Steen-Weg in the Bad Schwartau district of Rensefeld is named after him.
