Little Parin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klein Parin is a village belonging to the municipality of Stockelsdorf in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein with approx. 180 inhabitants on the western side of the Pariner mountain .

Klein Parin can be traced back to a Wendish foundation, to which the complex testifies as a round village - the town center lies on a circular road (named "Wendenrund") that surrounds a central grassy area.

history

Memorial stone to the former name of the village Klein Parin

The origins of Klein Parin are closely linked to the history of the neighboring village of Groß Parin (today part of the town of Bad Schwartau ) and the Wagrien region.

The name "Parin" is derived from a Wendish expression that is interpreted as "by the brook" or "at the swamp (located)".

After the conquest of Wagrien in 1138/39 by the Holsten , there was a population migration. The local Wends gave up some of their settlements. They wandered a few kilometers further west and founded a new village, which was also named "Poryn". In order to distinguish the two settlements, the older settlement was referred to as "Dudeschen (German) Poryn", the newer settlement as "Wendish (Wendish) Poryn". After the population had been mixed up over the centuries, these names had lost their meaning and “Dudeschen” became “large” Parin and “Wendish” became “small” Parin.

  • The first documentary mention took place in 1317.
  • In 1341 the knight Buchwald sold the village to the Lübeck Godecke.
  • Further changes of ownership followed until the village came into the possession of the Petrikirche in Lübeck as a gift and from there came into the possession of the Lübeck bishopric .
  • In 1804, after the abolition of the Lübeck bishopric, Klein Parin became part of the newly formed Principality of Lübeck .

Others

On the central grass area there is a small memorial for the fallen Klein Pariners of the First and Second World Wars . There is a Bismarck tower on the Pariner Berg, from which you have a very good view, sometimes even as far as the Baltic Sea.
