Utecht is a municipality in the west of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Rehna Office , based in the city of the same name .
geography
The municipality of Utecht is located between Lübeck and Ratzeburg , on the northeastern bank of the Great Ratzeburg Lake . The lakeshore is also the border with Schleswig-Holstein . The area rises from Ratzeburg Lake (4 m above sea level) further east to 82 m above sea level. NN at.
The district of Campow belongs to Utecht.
history
Developed from a Slavic Rundling and first mentioned in 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register , Utecht belonged to the Johanniskloster in Lübeck, from 1375 to 1747 to the chapter of the Ratzeburg Cathedral and then again as an exclave in Lübeck. At that time, a ferry across the Wakenitz connected Utecht with the southern suburbs of Lübeck. Utecht came to Mecklenburg in 1937 through the Greater Hamburg Act .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Campow and Neuhof near Schlagsdorf were incorporated. In the GDR era, the community was right on the inner-German border , the residents of the Neuhof and Campow districts had to leave their homes - Neuhof was sacrificed to the border security systems and razed. As residents of the border area, the Uechter had a special permit in their identity card, without which the village could not be entered (close relatives had to apply for this pass around four weeks before their visit to Utecht and to collect it from the police in the then district town of Gadebusch ).

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with a torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE UTECHT • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".

Transport links
In 1995 the road to Rothenhusen (part of the Schleswig-Holstein community of Groß Sarau ) was restored with a bridge over the Wakenitz . The bridge was replaced by a new building (arch bridge) in 2009. As the northernmost community in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve and bordering the Great Ratzeburg Lake and not far from the federal motorway 20 (4 km to the north), Utecht is now looking forward to increasing tourist development on the east side of the lake after a period of “prescribed calm”.
