Ratzeburg tithe register
The Ratzeburger Zehntregister from the year 1230 is an ordered by parishes directory of the Ratzeburger bishop in the villages of the Bishopric of Ratzeburg verlehnten tithes and vassals .
content
The register, which is written in Latin, provides an insight into the structure of the parish organization and the state of the high medieval state development in the area of the Ratzeburg diocese at the beginning of the 13th century. The register gains regional awareness through the listing of place names: Almost 400 villages in the districts of the Duchy of Lauenburg as well as Ludwigslust-Parchim and Northwest Mecklenburg are first mentioned in a document.
Lore history
The manuscript was part of the abbey archive. After the secularization of the diocese, it came to Schoenberg (Mecklenburg) with the other Ratzeburg deeds and files first in 1652 and then soon to Schwerin . In the course of the division of the country through the Hamburg settlement , the monastery archive came back to Ratzeburg. In 1828 it was brought to the Grand Ducal Archive of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in Neustrelitz . Since the unification of the two Mecklenburgs and the dissolution of the archive in Neustrelitz in 1934, the manuscript, which has been tied to a copy of the Ratzeburg church since the 17th century, has been in the Schwerin state archive . Its authoritative publication took place in the Mecklenburg record book (MUB I, 375). A facsimile is attached to the investigation by Egorov .
The manuscript has been completely available online in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Digital Library since 2020.

Its purpose as a tithe loan register accordingly only those villages of the diocese of Ratzeburg are listed in which state the bishop of the tenth and he had verlehnt of this somewhat. Accordingly, the parish of Bergedorf and the villages of the Vierlande are missing. There the bishop was not entitled to tithe. The villages in the country of Boitin , in which the bishop had not awarded a tithe, listed in the Isfried partition agreement , are also not listed. The villages of Römnitz, Groß and Klein Ziethen, Farchau, Göttin and Niendorf are deliberately left out. These were not subject to the bishop's tithing. Whether for this reason other 1230 existing villages were left out or even forgotten when it was written is a matter of individual dispute.
