Marienkirche in Klütz

The Marienkirche in the small town of Klütz in Mecklenburg is a brick Gothic church from the transition from Romanesque to Gothic . It is the church of the parish Klütz in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg . The community belongs to the Wismar provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

history

The town of Klütz and its parish are mentioned as early as 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register , which lists the localities that were then part of the Ratzeburg diocese, sorted by parishes . The structure of the Marienkirche is typical for the area around Wismar , but it is significantly larger than the rural churches in the villages that can be found in Mecklenburg. The reason for this lies in the importance of the patch for the surrounding area in Klützer Winkel , whose forests were promised to the city of Lübeck in a document as early as 1188 by Emperor Barbarossa as wood reserves for house and shipbuilding.

The building consists of a three-aisled hall as a central part of three bays each under cross vaults behind a square west tower from more recent times. The tower is the width of the central nave. The strangely elongated choir consists of two almost square rectangles one behind the other. In 1701 vaults were rebuilt under the old original vaults.

Furnishing

The furnishings include the baroque altar from the beginning of the 18th century, the richly carved Renaissance pulpit from 1587 with the coats of arms of Mecklenburg noble families and the Roman stalls from the early 15th century. An old Gothic baptismal font that was found in the churchyard in 1844 contrasts with a richly carved baptism of the late Renaissance, the case of which dates from 1653. Friedrich Wilhelm Winzer created the two-manual organ with 20 stops in 1871 .
