Groß Schenkenberg is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, southwest of Lübeck . Rothenhausen and Ziegelhof are in the municipality.

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1194 as "Pukentorpe". The name "Scenkenberge" first appeared in 1230. Groß Schenkenberg is named after the cupbearer of Albrecht II (Weimar-Orlamünde) . When Schleswig-Holstein was annexed by Prussia, the Groß Schenkenberg estate initially belonged to the Bliestorf office and became a settlement in 1929. In 1936 it was merged with Rothenhausen. Ecclesiastically, Groß Schenkenberg belongs to the parish Krummesse .

societies

The local sports club is SC Rothenhausen, which was founded in 1969 as TTC Rothenhausen and renamed in 1977. Among other things, it offers football and table tennis.

Personalities

The music teacher, organist, musicologist and music librarian Wilhelm Stahl was born in 1872 on the Ziegelhof in Groß Schenkenberg. Henning Karl Christian von Rumohr acquired the Rothenhausen and Groß Schenkenberg estates in 1778. The von Rumohrs can be attributed to the high nobility in Schleswig-Holstein. Henning von Rumohr made a name for himself as an important art historian of his time.
