history

The village was first mentioned in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230 as Borchardestorp . The name probably goes back to a knight named Borchard or Burchard. Three forts on site are said to have been destroyed by fighting between 1291 and 1349. According to tradition, the lords of Borstorf at that time were robber barons.
