About this picture

Giesensdorf is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein . Giesensdorf has no other districts.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1194 as Giselbrechtestorp in the Isfried partition contract . After several pledges and sales, the village belonged to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck from 1424 to 1937 as an exclave . The Giesensdorf farmers' bailiffs were members of the Lübeck citizenship. In 1937 the village came under the Greater Hamburg Act to what was then the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein .

In the Giesensdorfer Feldmark there are several burial mounds from the Bronze Age and various individual finds of tools, weapons and pottery shards are documented. A Roman gold coin found here, minted in 262 for the Emperor Postumus , could indicate early long-distance trade.

religion

55% of the population belong to the Protestant Church; There are no Catholics in Giesensdorf. Responsible for the Protestants is the parish of St. Georg auf dem Berge in Ratzeburg , which belongs to the northern region of the Lauenburg provost in the Lübeck-Lauenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

politics

Since the municipal elections in 2013, the WGG voter community has all seven seats in the municipal council.
