About this picture

Ritzerau is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, east of Hamburg .

history

The nobles of Ritzerau were first mentioned in 1222. The tithe register of the Ratzeburg bishop also mentions the place Ritzerau (Ritzerow) in 1230. In the 15th century the city of Lübeck acquired the knight's seat and the village. Ritzerau Castle has been the seat of the regional court since 1562. In 1747 the place was confirmed as Lübeck property by a comparison in Hanover . In 1772 the village burned down almost completely. In 1845 the castle was demolished and the district court was relocated in 1851. The Ritzerauer Hofscheune, built in 1547, was also demolished in 1923. The community belonged to the Hanseatic City of Lübeck as an exclave until the Greater Hamburg Act of 1937 and then came to the then Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein . However, the city of Lübeck remained the owner of Stadtgut (250 hectares, until 1990) and Forst Ritzerau (650 hectares ).
